Mr. Hartnell is misleading in his voter statement about his time in our community. The truth is, he just recently moved into town. In fact, he only just registered to vote here this past February of 2026, when he was recruited to run for city council by Ovi Popescu.

Mr. Hartnell has never attended a city council meeting or expressed an interest in the city government prior to this election. He even skipped the public budget meeting that went into detail about our financial challenges. Audio evidence proves he was recruited for Popescu to gain control over the city council. Mr. Hartnell supports and is supported by a group of folks, including Popescu, who have sued the city to prevent you, the voters from the opportunity to consider the sales tax measure. I believe you should decide on your own whether this measure should pass or not. Mr. Hartnell does not think so.

Our Sheriff’s Deputies & Firefighters are OPPOSING HIM. In his voter statement, Mr. Hartnell says he supports public safety and our first responders. However, he has had multiple run-ins with the law, including a recent failure to appear on a traffic ticket written by a Deputy Sheriff in Loma Linda, and a warrant issued for his arrest for dangerous driving. Hartnell’s supporters want to eliminate Deputy Sheriff positions and keep our new, empty, fire station unstaffed. Mr. Hartnell, you cannot claim to support public safety when you really don’t. That is misleading to our community as well.

Loma Linda University is not endorsing or supporting him, and they officially have no position on the citizen-initiated tax measure. The University understands the financial realities of the city and also knows they have a strong collaborative relationship with the current City Council majority.
The bottom line...
Mr. Hartnell was recruited by a group of folks who ultimately do not care about you, taxes or anything else in our city, but who want to gain control of the City Council. The city is in a precarious position, and our future will be determined by the leaders we chose to represent us. Please join me in rejecting this ideology and consider what is at stake in this election. There are two, far better candidates.
